How Does Kia's Smart Power Tailgate Work?

If your Kia is equiped with a Smart Power Liftgate. First you must turn it on, it is always turned off from the factory. Go into main settings in the infotainment system and look for door settings, go down to enable the Smart Liftgate. If you have a newer Kia car with a power liftgate, most likely it's a Smart Liftgate. Once it has been enabled. Lock the car, walk away, after approx a minute of being away from the car. Simply stand behind the vehicle with your key fob and wait for the tailgate to sense your smartkey, start beeping, and open automatically–perfect for when your hands are full. To shut the tailgate, tap the inside tailgate button. Kia uses the proximity of the Key Fob to the back of the vehicle to trigger the smart liftgate, no need to stand on one foot and wave it under the vehcile which can cause people to slip and fall.
