QUESTION
How does a Plug In Hybrid or PHEV automobile work?
ANSWER
Plug-in hybrids, sometimes called Plug-in Hybrid-Electric Vehicles (PHEVs), are hybrids with high-capacity batteries that can be charged by plugging them into an electrical outlet or charging station. They can store enough electricity to propell the vehicle with just electricy which significantly reduces their petroleum use under typical driving conditions. PHEVs are designed to operate with all the capabilities and performance of an electric vehicle, though with a shorter ALL electric range due to a smaller battery pack than fully electric or EV vehicles.
